The Hungarian Studies Center offers an intensive two-semester preparatory programme in Hungarian as a foreign language for international students who wish to study at a Hungarian university.
The programme consists of 30 hours of instruction per week: 28 classes (14x90 minutes) of Hungarian as a foreign language and two classes (1x90 minutes) of Hungarian culture lecture on various topics that are held in English. The language instruction includes a) grammar classes; b) speaking with phonetic exercises (in a language lab); c) reading; d) listening and e) writing classes. A special emphasis is placed on vocabulary building in each class according to the needs of the participants
during the second semester in the field of medicine, economics and humanities.
From the beginning of the programme, study skills, presentation techniques and note-taking are taught to develop students’ academic skills for their future university studies.
The preparatory year starts with an orientation week to help students begin their studies in Szeged. At the end of the spring semester, students are eligible for reduced pricing to attend the 4-week intensive Summer University organized by the Hungarian Studies Center.
Who should apply?
This programme is appropriate for students who are planning to study in Hungary and master their language proficiency.
Application requirements: A certificate of completion of secondary education is required. Students are expected to have a minimum of A2 level English language that should be demonstrated during the entrance interview.
Start of the program: Mid-September
Duration of the programme: 2 semesters (from mid-September to mid-June)
Tuition fee: 3800 EUR/year.
Other fees: 35 EUR application fee and 250 EUR entrance exam fee (both are non-refundable)
